The Research units of the Molecular Zoology Lab (MoZoo Lab) work on a wide spectrum of topics in animal evolutionary biology.

Evolution is the unifying concept of Biology, so that understanding its mechanisms, from genes to organisms, represents a central issue of our research.

To address this, powerful markers are needed, so that we use a wide array of both basic and up-to-date lab techniques (SEM morphology, karyology, cytogenetic analyses, allozyme electrophoresis, RealTime PCR, DNA sequencing, genome and transcriptome analyses).

The MoZoo Lab is located in the Department of “Biologia Evoluzionistica Sperimentale”, University of Bologna (Italy). The Lab hosts the research activities of the “Molecular evolution and reproductive strategies” (B. Mantovani) and “Mitogenomics and evolution” (M. Passamonti) units.
