The Research units of the Molecular Zoology Lab (MoZoo Lab) work on a wide spectrum of topics in animal evolutionary biology.

Evolution is the unifying concept of Biology, and understanding its mechanisms, from genes to organisms, represents a central issue of our research. To address this, we use a wide array of both basic and state-of-the-art lab techniques such as electron, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, allozyme electrophoresis, karyology, cytogenetic analyses, RealTime qPCR, and High-Throughput Sequencing.

The MoZoo Lab is located in the Department of “Scienze Biologiche, Geologiche e Ambientali (BiGeA)”, University of Bologna (Italy). The Lab hosts the research activities of the “Molecular evolution and reproductive strategies” (B. Mantovani) and “Mitogenomics and evolution” (M. Passamonti) units.
